Winter-scape Photo Contest

Hey there, DEs! Lately we've been having bios, so you can get to know other students better, but now it's time to see your creativity!

Since it's Winter, we're doing a Winter-scape Photo Contest! Just put in your best outdoor pic in the google doc here by the 6th of February.

Here are some tips:

  • Try to show off the local area you live in. It doesn't matter if you have snow, palm trees, or the window to your space-station, we want to see it!
  •  Avoid selfies. You may be in the photo and other people too, but we mostly want to see the awesome landscape around you.
  • Fan of Legos? Try making an outdoor scene with minifigs! Photo examples can be found here.
  • And of course, make it creative!

Have fun!

Results will be posted ASAP after deadline date. Photo above provided by Namphuong Van on Unsplash

Bryce Lewis (Mexico)

Hey guys!  My name is Bryce Lewis and I am a 17-year-old senior living
in Tijuana, Mexico.  I have been involved with Liahona for the past
three years and I absolutely love it!  With this being my Senior year of
high school, I've decided that I really want to make the most of every
single day and just live my best life.  One of my favorite things to do
in my free time is hang out with friends and go on adventures.
Additionally, my favorite creative outlet would definitely be
photography.  I easily lose all track of time when I am taking pictures,
which explains why I have to go through and delete so many...  I am a
restless reader, sincere scientist, and dynamic driver (trust me, it's
not easy driving in Mexico).  Following my Senior year, I plan to attend
college at BYU and then serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints (espero que vaya a un lugar donde se
habla espaΓ±ol).  My professional dream is to become a pediatrician
because 1) kids are adorable, 2) I love helping people, and 3) refer to
reason 1 because seriously:  those little munchkins are too. pure. for.
this. world.  If any of y'all want to keep in touch with me, my instagram
is @livinlike_b.  I always love meeting new DEs because we each
are so unique and different. There is something really unifying and
amazing when we choose to come together despite the long distances
we share.  I look forward to this new year and to all the opportunities it
brings!  Let's make this next semester the best one yet, k?

Hunter Poteet (Utah)

Hi! My name is Hunter A. Poteet! I am 15 years old (16 in June!) and I am a skilled video editor, and ALSO skilled in OTHER ways, like music, art, acting, etc. I absolutely LOVE the theater, and have loved doing it in the past years! I have a lot of friends in this school, and memories! My first memories of Liahona was Prom 2018. I met some of my friends IRL and got to talk with them. I have been doing Liahona since 2017. This is my 3rd year, and I hope it can be even better!

Eliza Pearson (Texas)

Hey y'all! My name is Eliza Pearson and I have been in Liahona for almost 2 years and all of my siblings have graduated from it. I have attended Youth Conference twice and it is so much fun. I spend as much time as I can playing Gaga Ball (!!!!) and spending time with friends there.(!!!) I'm 14, living in Texas. It's Amarillo but kinda small. I love animals, the outdoors, friends, family, love to do crafty things, taking pictures sometimes, games, and to read. I love being able to talk to or even hang out with other students/DE's. It's amazing what a group of friends and/or youth can do. I'm so glad I've been able to talk with y'all and be a part of Liahona and am excited for future years. Something else about me is that I'm the youngest of 6 people, 3 siblings and have a cat, 2 chickens, (have had a lot of chickens and a cat in the past) and lots of fish (the fish are mostly my dad, though) Here's to Liahona! Let's be Exceptional! :DD

Lily Carlisle (Washington)

Hi I'm Lily Carlisle I'm in 8th grade I'm 14 going on 15, I like Liahona
I love to draw, play piano, and chat with friends and I have 2 dogs I live in Issaquah, WA and if you know where that is then I'm impressed because no one knows where that is apparently. I've been taking classes from Liahona since 4th grade, and I'm held back a year.

Meg Jensen (Idaho)

Hey, peeps! I’m Meg from Idaho (almost positive I’m the only Meg in Liahona, though sometimes I’m Megan to Sister Taylor/G) and this is my second semester with Liahona! I’m 15, 16 in October, and do seminary at Eagle High, I’m also a freshman. I do a lot in my free-time - however the robotics team that I’m part of sort of murders free time - such as speedcubing (solving a Rubik’s cube super fast), writing (almost finished with a book) and reading excessively long books. I hope to continue doing liahona for the remainder of my high school experience. ;P

Ty Neville (California)

I am a nerdy 6' 1" teen, who enjoys tennis, 3-d computer modeling/animation, reading fiction, writing fiction, singing in my college's men's chorus, playing with friends, and taking Liahona classes. I come from a family of 9 children (of which I am seventh), my favorite color is green, and my favorite Author is John Flanagan (Author of the Rangers Apprentice series). I am also strong in the gospel, enjoy church, and have the best Seminary teacher ever. ₍•͈α΄—•͈₎

Daniel Jolley (Utah)

Liahona is so fun for me to be a part of! This is my second year attending. Right now I'm doing History and Digital Journalism (my favorite). I love making friends with any student I meet either Acad or DE. Anytime of day I love creating! My favorite hobbies include watercolor, writing in my novel, hand lettering, and iOS Design. When I can, I enjoy cooking or baking and just being outside. Eventually I hope to become an entrepreneur/robotic engineer/part-time author. I'm always coming up with ideas and only hope to live long enough to make them all happen (year 2104 here we go!!). Other random things I like are baseball, Cameros, Border Collies, and card games. And also Oreos! Except...my family is more of a choco-chip fan and I'm trying to avoid sugar so 🀷‍♂️

Kjirsten McOmber (Jordan)

Hey Everyone! I am Kjirsten McOmber I currently live in Amman Jordan! I travel every three to two years to a different country! I love learning about the language, culutre, people, and just going on adventures where I live! I am the last of six kids. (me being number 6!) I am a super proud aunt of four (soon to be five) Nieces and Nephews! I love to read, play games with family/friends, and go exploring! I love to cook and bake food for my family and others! My favorite holiday of all time is Christmas! I will be sixteen in September! I love Liahona, I have been with Liahona for two years and hope to finish H.S. with them! When I am older I want to go to BYU and study nursing specializing in Laboring and Delivery cause I love babies, since they are so sweet and innocent and pure and are just a little piece of heaven in your home! I love the gospel! It is literally amazing! I hope to serve a mission when I am a little older! I also love macaroni and Cheese! (Yes I am a little six year old at heart! XD) I love meeting new people and hope if I ever meet any of you in future you will want to be friends with me!!!!! Evy Chan (Texas)

Hey Yall! My name is Evy (duh, as you may have noticed from my name up there), and I live in Texas (again, duhhh but oh well). As some of you may know, I live in the super-humid-never-gets-very-cold part of Texas, I'm not joking when I say never gets very cold. like seriously the coldest it got this winter was 35℉, not even freezing but I mean oh well. Hmmm... some things about me are that I LOVE music, like seriously, but I guess it runs in my family (how does it run in the family you ask? well, we have 5 violins, a viola, 3 ukuleles, 2 acoustic guitars, an electric guitar, a flute, a piano, 2 recorders, and a harmonica (oh yeah, and we also like singing! so much music πŸ˜‚). You can do the math if you want), I sing, play Piano (my fav instrument), Flute, Ukulele, and a lil bit of guitar. Moving on, I love singing, baking, art, animals, the color blue, and reading. Books πŸ‘ are πŸ‘ my πŸ‘ life πŸ‘. I am a Freshman and I have been in Liahona for a while, considering this is my 5th year. I have the sad position as the middle child, but I'm chill with it. When I'm older, I would like to go into graphic design! I don't know what school yet, but I'll probably go somewhere close to home. I love ice cream and my favorite flavor is cookie 2 step (#bluebell). Other random stuff about me is that I have a doggo (he's a maltese/bichon frise if yall really wanna know). I am the editor in chief of the blog team (the blog team meaning the ones that bring you these posts). I also REALLY like photography! oh yeah, and I love sports! Even though I suck at them πŸ˜…if any of yall wanna talk to me my email is chanfam5@yahoo.com (oh yeah and I also have google hangouts! 😁) and yeah that's about it! It's a great day to be alive so live your life and don't look back πŸ˜„

Amelia Murdock (Idaho)

This is my first year at Liahona. I enjoy reading, painting, embroidery, debate, dancing, cooking, and baking. I have moved 10 times in the 15 years of my life , but we are probably staying here because my dad got his dream job teaching at BYU-I. I am the third child out of eight, so our family is pretty big and I love it! So that's me. I love Liahona and hope to come back next year. Hope I can meet all of you someday, maybe after Corona leaves. Goodbye!
